Why Counseling

At Jesus People Places we strongly believe in utilizing the tools and gifts the Lord gives. One of the greatest of those being therapy. I have seen therapy be utilized as a tool to help so many people I love, as well as myself. I have used therapy in really intense moments in my life, when dealing with trauma, and also simply when I just needed someone with psychological expertise to talk to. Anxiety has been an ongoing battle for myself as well as many people in my family.

Sophia is a like-minded individual who’s passions align with our brand. She speaks from a place of wisdom and grace. She is someone I believe you can fully trust in whatever you are walking through. She and I have very similar stories and initially connected deeply through talking all things body image + relationship with food. We both know how difficult that can be in a digital world. I am confident in the counsel Sophia provides.

I am so happy you are here! It is a privilege to embark on this transformative journey together towards a thriving you. I help individuals through a wide spectrum of challenges, including but not limited to ADHD, anxiety, body image, depression, tics, OCD, and trauma. I offer a holistic approach utilizing behavioral, cognitive behavioral, somatic therapy, solution-focused therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy techniques.

God's design for your life involves community. When he created you, He knew that you would need people and that people would need you. Not a want. But a need. We are better together. Which is why the enemy's tactic is to isolate us from others and bring shame. To not just physically isolate us but emotionally as well. To make sure you are anything but vulnerable and honest with how you are feeling or what you are truly going through. This can make us feel incredibly alienated and alone. We then believe the lies that we are alone in our pain, alone in our trauma, alone in our eating disorder, alone in our depression, alone in our anxiety. God heals and so does community. The secular nature of therapy is to offer every individual unconditional positive regard and acceptance. We may be familiar with what this feels like because this is the way that we know Jesus' love for us. No, you will not find “thou shall go to therapy” in the commandments but God's desire for each and every one of us is to seek counsel, accountability, and to be vulnerable with trusted individuals so we do not walk through our burdens alone - we were never meant to.

Therapy is not accepting defeat that you cannot do this alone, but inviting another layer of healing that may have never happened if we did not accept the beautiful gift that is community.

My goal is to provide practical tools so you can live a purpose filled life, no matter the season you are in.
