Lagos, Portugal

Lagos Portugal.

Lagos was without a doubt one of my favorite places I have ever been. It is SUCH an underrated city with so much to do. This city has something for everyone - those who want adventure, just to lay by the beach, to party, etc.

Like always, let’s give some starting notes.

BRING CASH!! I cannot say this enough for all of Portugal but especially Lagos. Everywhere in Europe I have been good with my travel credit card but Lagos we needed cash almost everywhere. Even our hostel we had to pay for in cash. Their are ATMS everywhere too just watch the service fee places.

UBER. In Portugal Uber is the most affordable EVER. If you’re traveling in a group, just uber.

Surfer Town Vibes: I had not idea about Lagos before going here but LOVED it. The vibes give surfer town energy, lot’s of people coming to surf. Lagos is cheap as well, picture a bunch of people from all over (lots from Australia), just hanging out super slow paced drinking beers + ciders.

Pizza Party Rave???? Apparently every Friday night there is a pizza party rave in the woods. Someone is going to yell at me for exposing this but I did not go - friends in our hostel did & unless you want to be around some hard substances I would not recommend.

Activities

Booked through GetYourGuide we enjoyed a three hour catamaran cruise full of yummy drinks, games, time to swim, and the most gorgeous views. This was such a great way to see the coast. Plus, get your guide also has so many options for other excursions. Our experience with this specific excursion was amazing and I would absolutely recommend using them as your one stop shop when traveling!

  • Benagil Caves

I didn't make it to the caves the first time around here but plan on going soon! I will keep you updated on reviews here!!

Locations

Ponta Da Piedade

I cannot even begin to describe a more gorgeous view. If you go one place in Lagos, go here. It is about a half hour walk from town, you can also take a bus or uber but the walk is also just fine. Here you can hike down to the water, book a mini boat cruise, and of course take all the photos.

Praia Do Camilo

On the way back from Ponta Da Piedade stop at this beach. This is one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever been to & largely reminded me of Lovers Beach in Cabo! There are quite a few steps down to the beach but it is so worth it. Make sure to get there early to ensure you get a good spot.

O Camilo

Although we never made it here this restaurant is located at the top of this beach offering seafood, oysters, etc.

Minimercado Costa d’Oiro

If you go to the beaches they are pretty far from food, pick up some snacks + ciders etc for your beach day! This place is so great, has lots of local snacks. (cash only)

Food

My Sushi

Unlimited sushi?? Yes please. If you like sushi, just go. I don’t need to say more.

The Garden

I had the most fantastic South African dish here. It was an outside restaurant that gave the relaxed, surfer town vibes that Lagos is. Everything was reasonably priced!!

Black and White Coffee Shop

Breakfast spot with some of the best breakfast burritos. They also have avocado toast, pancakes, etc. It was too reasonably priced, more on the expensive side for Lagos.

Goji Lounge Cafe

My top food recommendation. This place was fantastic. I got their salty and spicy toast, the avocado toast. It was incredible. I also got a green smoothie to-go which was only 4 euros. Last but not least their cappuccino was so good.
